La Nourriture Française
un croque monsieur
You will research French foods and discover the regional and cultural differences within the French cuisine. This is a two phase project in which you will research a French dish, cook it for the class, and then create a menu for your own French restaurant.
Phase 1: Use the following websites to find a traditional French dish. You will search through different regional menus, select a dish that interests you, and type two paragraphs about your dish and its cultural significance. Some questions to consider are: How is your dish made? Is there an inventor of this dish? How is it typically eaten in France? Is this dish mainly eaten in a certain region of France? What are the traditional ingredients? After you have researched your dish, you will find and print a recipe for your dish. You will prepare your dish and bring it to the class and tell the class about your dish next week, Tuesday October 16. Keep in mind that even if the French eat a certain food (pizza, hamburgers, pasta, ramen, etc.) These are not traditional French foods. Focus on things that are new to you. The goal is for you to learn something. Bonne chance!
Due at the end of the period: Two typed paragraphs about your dish with a copy of your recipe pasted on the same page. 1 PAGE ONLY!

Phase 2: You will create a cafe men, due as a major grade Friday October 12. Research different menus of restaurants in France to get an idea of how menus are written, what dishes are served in a cafe, and prices for certain dishes. Print out a menu that you like, not one for the Paris cafe sites that I gave you below. For extra credit, you may write a description of your restaurant. Where is it located in Paris? What does it look like on the inside? Is it rustic? Is it glamorous and popular with celebrities? Is there a theme for your restaurant? For your menu, you must include the following:
-4 categories (Ex: Les desserts, les boissons, les sandwichs, etc.)
-5 or more items in each category
-A French name for your cafe
-5 or more original vocabulary words
-Prices in euros
-A minimum of 4 colors
